Serving the Military Community through Workforce Intiatives
This is a webinar!
While Veterans are a known priority population, many overlook Military spouses and Transitioning Service Members who are also part of the military community and need workforce support. These populations face higher than average unemployment rates and have unique barriers to employment that need to be addressed including gaining civilian certifications, accessing a network of local businesses, and translating military experience into a resume. Join Denise Bourdeaux, Targeted Populations Manager and Military Career Connections Manager, to learn how Anne Arundel Workforce Development Corporation (AAWDC), the Title 1 service provider in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, launched Military Career Connection using Dislocated Worker funding to address the growing need of our military community. Through a partnership with our neighboring local workforce area and Ft. Meade, AAWDC was able to provide a robust network of services to support the military community connected to Ft. Meade. In addition, AAWDC provides services to the military community connected to the two other installations in the county, the US Naval Academy, and the US Coast Guard Yard. Join our November 30 Minutes of Excellence Session to hear how AAWDC developed relationships with the installations, what partners to connect with to serve this population, and the best practices we have learned through developing this program.
